Sarah Fisher lands 2-race sponsor

Sarah Fisher lands sponsorship from Dollar General

After wrestling with funding woes in her first year as an Indy-Car Series driver-owner, Sarah Fisher will have Dollar General adorning her Dallara-Honda at Kentucky Speedway next month. The monetary terms of the two-race deal, which also includes the Sept. 7 event at Chicagoland Speedway, weren't disclosed, but it will help stabilize Sarah Fisher Racing. The start-up team had a primary sponsor back out just before its Indianapolis 500 debut last month.

That triggered a flood of donations in contributions from $5 to $5,000, totaling $51,000. Fisher has sent more than 100 notes of gratitude and included a piece of carbon fiber from her Indy 500 car, damaged in a crash.

"It's like a wedding," says Fisher, who was voted the Indy Racing League's most popular driver for three consecutive years. "You get all these people sending money, and I had to send thank yous. It's only appropriate. One fan even said they would frame (the piece) as a souvenir." More at USA Today
