Eliott Bachelart had a very successful two-day test aboard a Formula BMW car at Putnam Park this week with Apex Racing. The young Belgian put in a quickest lap time that was only half of a second off the Formula BMW track record and which was slightly quicker than the other drivers present at the test. Making the feat even more satisfying for Bachelart was the fact that it was his first time in a Formula BMW machine.
The test took place this past Wednesday and Thursday in hot and humid conditions which didn’t have an effect on the 16-year-old race car driver who has been working a lot on his fitness level these last few months. The son of Conquest Racing team owner, Eric Bachelart, adapted quickly to his new “surroundings" and progressed extremely well over the two-day test. He put in his fastest lap on new tires during the second day of testing.
“I was quite impressed with the level of grip on the Formula BMW car," expressed young Bachelart. “I had to adapt my driving style to this car and that went very well for me. In addition to being my first time in a Formula BMW it was my first time driving a car with all the data acquisition. I learned a lot just from looking at all that data. It was very useful.
“Working with Apex Racing was great. The atmosphere on the team was really nice and I want to thank David Hunt and Peter Hildebrand for giving me this opportunity as well as for the team’s hard work and support this past week."
Eliott Bachelart now heads to Europe this Saturday to take part in a two-day Formul’Academy test at the historic Le Mans circuit. The test is in preparation for his races at Spa-Francorchamps for which he was chosen, by the Royal Automobile Club of Belgium, to represent his native country of Belgium in the Formul’Academy Euro Series rounds at Spa during the weekend of the 24 Hours of Spa, August 1 and 2.
