Allstate 400 at the Brickyard notebook – Monday

For the fourth straight year, fans of the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and help save lives by participating in the Blood and Bone Marrow Drive at the Brickyard on Saturday, July 26 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The Drive is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Hall of Fame Museum East parking lot.

The Blood and Bone Marrow Drive at the Brickyard is a part of the national NASCAR Foundation Annual Blood and Marrow Drive, which is a partnership between The NASCAR Foundation, Hendrick Marrow Program and the Jimmie Johnson Foundation. Fans can donate blood for the American Red Cross and join the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) Registry. Everyone who attends the Drive will receive a free T-shirt or other giveaways.

Donor recipients and their families will be on hand to share their stories and to speak with participants. American Red Cross coloring books, crayons and stick-on tattoos will be provided to children while their parents give blood. Buddy the Blood Drop, official mascot of the American Red Cross, will be on hand to take pictures with kids.

Joining the National Marrow Donor Registry is easy. A small cotton swab is used to gather cheek cells from donors. The tissue type is tested, with information added to the Registry.

In total during the past three years of the Drive at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, 135 units of blood were collected and 128 new members were placed on the NMDP Registry.

Last year's Blood and Bone Marrow Drive at the Brickyard was the most successful to date, with 74 pints of blood collected and 86 new members added to the NMDP Registry. In 2005 and 2006 combined, 61 units of blood were collected and 42 new members placed on the Registry.

One person who joined the NMDP Registry in the 2005 Drive at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway donated his marrow to a recipient in May 2007.

Ashley Taylor, a young woman from Indianapolis, was diagnosed with two different cancers within a two-year period and received marrow from a donor. Today, she is a healthy 23 year-old college student.

"Four years ago this month, a man who signed up at a drive like this gave me his bone marrow and saved my life," Taylor said. "Every person who gives blood or is put on the National Registry is giving someone hope."

Since the Blood and Bone Marrow Drive at the Brickyard is taking place on Speedway grounds during Allstate 400 at the Brickyard weekend, there is a $15 admission fee into the track for the day's activities. Children age 5 and under are admitted free of charge. Participation in the Drive is free.

Impressive musical lineup: A strong lineup of musical stars in rock and country will entertain fans during the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Rock superstars The Goo Goo Dolls headline the entertainment Saturday, July 26 at IMS, while legendary country group The Charlie Daniels Band, country star Craig Morgan and rising country talent Casey Jamerson will perform Sunday, July 27.

Every show is free with the price of each day's admission ticket.
Multi-platinum rock superstars The Goo Goo Dolls will perform a Miller Lite Rock 'N Racing concert at 4:45 p.m. (ET) Saturday on the Miller Lite Stage behind the Hall of Fame Museum.

Since forming in 1986 in Buffalo, N.Y., The Goo Goo Dolls have evolved from a scrappy, punk-influenced trio into the platinum-selling, chart-topping act behind such radio staples as "Name," "Iris," "Slide" and "Here is Gone."

The Charlie Daniels Band, Morgan and Jamerson will perform starting at 10 a.m. Sunday on the stage located behind the Hall of Fame Museum as part of HANK's Hog Roast.

Indiana native Jamerson will open the show with an acoustic set at 10 a.m. Her single "I Miss You Already" is in regular rotation at Indianapolis country station 97.l HANK FM.

Morgan will follow Jamerson on stage. His most recent album, "A Little Bit of Life," was released in 2006 and featured three top-10 hits, "Little Bit of Life," "Tough" and "International Harvester."

The Charlie Daniels Band will close the show with a set starting at noon. The band's mix of southern rock and country music has made singer/songwriter/fiddle player Daniels an icon of the music industry.

Daniels began touring as a musician in 1959, but with the formation of The Charlie Daniels Band in the early 1970s, Daniels was propelled to superstardom with hits such as "Uneasy Rider" (1973), "The South's Gonna Do It Again" (1975) and the crossover mega-hit "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" (1979), which was a No. 1 country single, No. 3 on the popular music charts and earned a Grammy Award.

Other activities that will take place near the stage during HANK's Hog Roast include a Tailgate Toss tournament, and pork barbecue vendors will sell their tasty wares.

The Allstate 400 at the Brickyard opens Friday, July 25 with Chevy Day at the Brickyard, which includes a variety of autograph sessions and question-and-answer sessions with Chevy drivers from 8 a.m. until noon. On-track action starts that day with practice at 2 p.m.

Qualifying for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race starts at 10:10 a.m. Saturday, with two practice sessions that afternoon. The race starts at 2 p.m. Sunday.
