Tony George points finger at NASCAR and Goodyear

Indianapolis Motor Speedway CEO Tony George said today it’s up to NASCAR and Goodyear to find a solution for the tire debacle that spoiled Sunday’s Allstate 400 at the Brickyard.

George, who missed the 400 while vacationing in British Columbia following the IndyCar Series race in Edmonton, Alberta, said there have been enough stock car races on that surface for the problem to have been avoided.

This was the 15th Sprint Cup Series race at the Speedway, which had its oval track resurfaced in 2005.

“They’ve run on it," George said. “The problem is solely theirs, and by that I mean it’s theirs to figure out.

“(A solution) is not going to come with anything we do to the track. Figuring it out will only come with getting the car and tire combination right, and that requires actually spending the time and effort to do something about it.

“The track won’t change next year, so if they want to come back they better figure it out because I don’t think the fans want to come back and see that," he said. “I think that’s obvious."

Goodyear tested three cars at the track in April, had 15 years experience at the track and still came to Indy with defective tires, that's how bad a tire company they are.
