Force India delays new gearbox until Valencia
(GMM) Force India has opted to delay the introduction of its new seamless shift gearbox.
The back-of-the-grid Silverstone based team ran the unit at the Jerez test last week, and has long targeted the Hungarian grand prix this weekend for its race debut.
But technical boss Mike Gascoyne revealed on Tuesday that, despite the test's positive results, the team has decided not to race the seamless gearbox until Valencia, after the three-week August break.
"We need to accrue more mileage before racing it, but we will run it on the Friday in Hungary," Gascoyne said.
It is true that, as Giancarlo Fisichella and Adrian Sutil's current gearboxes are only three races into their mandatory four-race cycle, debuting the new unit in Hungary would have accrued penalties.
