Detroit offers Canadian fans discount package
The Grand Prix is proud to offer “Canadian Fan Prix" ticket packages at the August 29-31 event through a collaborative effort with the City of Windsor, the Convention & Visitors Bureau of Windsor Essex County and Pelee Island, itravel 2000 Vacations and Canada’s VIA Rail train system. Through these unique packages, a dedicated grandstand of Canadian race fans will be created at the Grand Prix. Prime race viewing in Grandstand 2, located at the start/finish line, will come alive with hundreds of Canadian fans on Grand Prix weekend.
“The Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix is a tremendous event for entire region," said Windsor Mayor Eddie Francis. "Windsor and Detroit have demonstrated in the past just how successful our events can be when we work together to showcase our ‘two-nation destination.’ We want to pack the Canadian Grandstand for all three days of the Grand Prix and show our pride and enthusiasm to the world."
The Fan Prix packages include reserved seats in the Canadian grandstand, paddock passes, free parking in City of Windsor municipal lots, round-trip transit tickets to Belle Isle from Windsor, access to the Meijer Family Fun Zone and free concerts on the XM Stage. The packages start at just $58 per person (GST included) for one-day tickets. Fans should visit www.citywindsor.ca for more information or call 311 in the City of Windsor to purchase tickets.
Special discount travel packages have also been created to encourage fans throughout Ontario to take advantage of all the excitement the Grand Prix has to offer. With the open-wheel race in Toronto not being run this summer for the first time in more than 20 years, Canadian fans have a great opportunity to fill that void with some great racing on the streets of Belle Isle.
Through itravel 2000 and VIA Rail, exclusive Grand Prix travel packages from Ottawa and Toronto are being offered to fans. These single-day or weekend packages include both race and rail tickets as guests will travel on VIA Rail to Windsor. Round-trip tickets on Transit Windsor to and from Belle Isle are also included along with tickets in the Canadian Grandstand. To view all of the ticket options and to purchase tickets visit www.itravel2000.com.
“We want to thank Mayor Francis, the City of Windsor and all of our great Canadian partners for helping to create these terrific travel and ticket packages," said Bud Denker, Event Chairman of the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. “We know that Canada has great racing fans and we want to welcome them with open arms on Labor Day weekend."
For the second consecutive year, the City of Windsor will also sponsor the official event Media Center at the Grand Prix. The Belle Isle Casino will once again be known as the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix International Media Center presented by the City of Windsor during race weekend. Members of the many national and international media outlets that cover the IndyCar Series, the American Le Mans Series and the SCCA SPEED World Challenge GT Championship will enjoy the collaborative efforts of Windsor representatives and their counterparts from the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau as they host the press contingent throughout Grand Prix weekend.
