Hamilton thinks he’s as good as Schumacher
McLaren driver Hamilton is on course to become the first man to complete a hat-trick of Formula One victories since German legend Schumacher in 2006.
He holds a four-point drivers’ championship lead over Ferrari’s Felipe Massa and is seven points ahead of the Italian team’s Kimi Raikkonen.
And Hamilton, who has team-mate Heikki Kovalainen behind him on the Budapest grid, boasted: “I am at my best. So far, this is as comfortable as I have ever been.
“I feel pretty much on top of things and I still have room to improve.
“You can never feel too comfortable, but I feel safe in the position I am in. I couldn’t be in a better position to push for a win."
Schumacher was handed a consultancy role with Ferrari when he quit Formula One.
He was at the German Grand Prix, where he was in radio communication with Massa and Raikkonen in practice, and is expected to do more testing.
Ferrari are hoping Schumacher’s experience in the cockpit will help Massa and Raikkonen to start winning again, but Hamilton believes he is on a par with the seven-time world champion.
“I think Michael’s presence at Ferrari is a compliment to us," said Hamilton. “We are not doing that and we are still winning races. Sunday Express
