No Rain Tires in Sprint Cup

NASCAR’s use of rain tires in Saturday’s Nationwide Series race was an unqualified success, but don’t expect to see any Sprint Cup races run in the rain. “No, not anytime soon," NASCAR vice president of competition Robin Pemberton said Sunday at Pocono. “We have them available in the Nationwide Series primarily for scheduling reasons." Pemberton indicated there’s enough latitude built into the Cup series schedule to accommodate the occasional rainout.

Lame excuse of course. the question is whether the drivers are good enough to race in the rain. In the Nationwide Series the road course drivers dominated the NASCAR regulars when the rain began in Montreal.
