Bridgestone makes Goodyear look like a joke
Firestone debuted a new tread compound for oval races, and it drew praise for its grip and durability Saturday at Kentucky. After the first set of pit stops, engineers noted there was only a 50 percent tread wear after 53 laps. A set lasted the last 65 laps for the top 10 finishers. In fact we never hear of many problems with Bridgestone racing tires. Contrast that with Goodyear tires in NASCAR where tires explode at will and as we saw at Indy, last as little as three laps before the cords are showing. We were astonished two years ago when NASCAR renewed with Goodyear. NASCAR can't seem to do anything right these days.
