Toyota’s racing TRD division making aftermarket street parts

Toyota Racing Development sales set a new record last month and the success came from an unlikely place: The TRD supercharger for the 5.7-liter V-8 in the Toyota Tundra pickup was one of the most popular items sold.

In the past, Toyota tried to sell parts for the discontinued Supra and an entire line of parts that weren't street legal. Not surprisingly, sales faltered. Now that the focus of TRD is on street legal parts for current vehicles that also have the California Air Resource Board approval, sales are doing much better. Now that the TRD group is integrated with the Toyota accessories department, the TRD parts are available when a vehicle is launched and the parts perform much better on all the vehicles. TRD parts do not void the Toyota warranty and can be installed at a local dealer.

TRD currently offers superchargers for its 2.4-liter I-4, 4.0-liter V-6, and 5.7-liter V-8 engines as well as springs, shocks, exhaust, wheels, and sway bars for a variety of current Toyota vehicles. Sadly, those items combined account for fewer annual sales than floor mats at Toyota dealers. Autonews.com
