Multi-purpose platform approach for IndyCars being considered

An IndyCar Series engine architecture applicable to other racing series is among the ideas that has engaged multiple global manufacturers in exploring development of the next technical package.

The Indy Racing League has targeted introduction of new engine and chassis specifications for the 2011 season — the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 – with a desire for multiple manufacturer participation in the engine program.

The multi-platform approach was conceived during dialogue between the sanctioning Indy Racing League and automotive executives and original equipment manufacturers individually following the IndyCar Automotive Manufacturers Roundtable in late June.
