Fiat wants to drive Jaguar with Tata

Fiat is talking to partner Tata Motors for supply of future powertrains to Jaguar-Land Rover once the Ford agreement runs out. Speaking on the sidelines of the SIAM annual general meeting, Fiat global CEO Sergio Marchionne said Fiat is looking to extend its alliance with the Tatas to include architecture, design, platform and powertrain collaboration for Jaguar-Land Rover as well.

“There is a lot of openness in Fiat about its partnership with Tata and JLR is a great opportunity for collaboration on architecture, powertrain, design and platform," Mr. Marchionne said. “So, yes, we are talking to the Tatas. We are keen to get a move on JLR. Currently, JLR has an arrangement to source engines from Ford, but if we were asked to supply engines to them we would be happy to do so. It is certainly one of the available options."

The Tata-Fiat alliance, he said, was not product or market-specific. “We have said that we want to be partners with Tata Motors in whatever fashion possible, and that is by no means restricted to a single product or market," Mr. Marchionne said. ET had reported on Fiat’s interest in collaborating with Tata on JLR in its edition dated August 19.
