Pantano closes on GP2 title with pole

Pastor Maldonado had taken the top spot in free practice for the GP2 cars today in Monza after a one hour delay as a result of a massive storm which flooded the paddock and the circuit, with Alberto Valerio and Mike Conway following in his wake on the still soaking circuit.

However, when it counted Giorgio Pantano scored pole position – and the two points that go with it – while title rival Bruno Senna could do no better than 12th position. Pantano is now 13 points ahead with 18 still up for grabs in the races.
