Vettel not ready for top F1 drive – Surer

(GMM) After becoming a record-breaking young formula one winner at Monza, Sebastian Vettel tasted life on the front page of most of Germany's daily mainstream newspapers.

But Marc Surer, a Swiss former grand prix driver and now respected commentator, has urged the world to temper its plaudits for the promising rookie Toro Rosso racer.

"You have to say that, as well, he also had some good luck," the former Arrows and Brabham driver, 56, is quoted as saying by sport1.de.

"He sat at the right time in the right car that is perfectly adapted to the weather conditions," Surer added.

Surer also believes a switch in the near future to a top team like McLaren or Ferrari would be too soon for 21-year-old Vettel.

"He still has a lot to learn, and with Toro Rosso and Red Bull he is able to do that.

"At the top teams, he would be immediately and permanently under pressure," Surer said.
