Singapore race almost sold out already
It was announced that more than 99 per cent of the tickets that went on sale for the new street race, representing all but a few hundred tickets, have been sold, with the rest likely to be snapped up prior to the event next weekend.
The finishing touches are now being put to the Marina Bay circuit, including the testing of the full lighting system, which will be put through its paces for a total of 100 hours in the coming days.
Lighting boss Valerio Maioli said the tests will only be carried out during the day, so that the effect of the floodlit circuit after sunset will be a surprise.
"At the end of this weekend, many visitors will arrive, many journalists will arrive, and I wish (this) will be a surprise for them," he said.
08/19/08 Ticket sales for the 2008 FORMULA 1™ SingTel Singapore Grand Prix continues to be brisk as the countdown clock hits the 40-Day mark.
“More than 95% of the tickets have already been sold, with 40,000 of the 100,000 tickets available per day, or 40%, sold to purchasers outside of Singapore,’’ said Mr. Teo Hock Seng, chairman of Singapore GP Pte Ltd, promoter of the world’s inaugural night Formula One race. “Over the three day event over 300,000 spectators will get to enjoy this unique race".
The strong sales performances impressive, given that Singapore GP initially planned only 70,000 tickets when launched in February 2008. Though this number was subsequently increased to over 100,000 in the last few months, less than 5% of tickets are still available.
Although the larger grandstands are already fully sold out there are still some great viewing opportunities at the Padang, Connaught, Singapore Flyer, Turn 2, and Esplanade grandstands. Walkabout tickets are also fully sold out.
General tickets can be purchased via the official website at www.singaporegp.sg or Singapore GP’s appointed ticketing outlets in key markets outside of Singapore, including North America, Europe, Australia and Asia. Details of authorized distributors can also be found on the website.
