Formula 1 takes a step into the unknown with the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix on September 28 – the first Grand Prix to be held at night. The Panasonic Toyota Racing team has experience of night racing from its Le Mans 24 Hours campaigns in the 1990s and it has used that knowledge to prepare for the Singapore Grand Prix. Around 1,500 lights will illuminate the 5.067km Marina Bay circuit but the lack of natural light is not the only unique factor; rain is possible and teams face the unusual situation of air and track temperatures falling during the course of the race and practice sessions.
