Alonso won’t rule out McLaren return

Without directly saying it, Fernando Alonso has not ruled out a return to McLaren should Ron Dennis retire

(GMM) Fernando Alonso has refused to rule out re-joining the McLaren team in the future.

Less than a year after his acrimonious split and contract termination with the Mercedes-powered team, it is clear that McLaren is not among the Spaniard's options for 2009.

"I am someone who never says something is impossible," the 27-year-old former double world champion is quoted as saying by Spanish press, "but a lot of things (at McLaren) would have to change."

It is widely believed that Alonso's personality clash with his 2007 teammate Lewis Hamilton was a crucial element to his failed McLaren tenure.

"I never had problems with him directly. He is a driver I respect," he insists.

"It is true that we did not get on very well, but it was more the team's fault and how the bosses handled it.

"I respect him because, in only his second year, he is doing a very good job. He is a good driver and there is nothing more to say," Alonso added.
