Lowe’s PM Testing: Biffle and Speed fastest

Greg Biffle’s hot streak in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series continued as the second-place points man in the Chase for the Sprint Cup topped the speed charts in Tuesday’s evening testing session at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

Biffle’s top speed of 185.605 mph was the best of the 51 Sprint Cup teams that took to the track in preparation for the Bank of America 500 event to be held here on Oct. 11, which will mark the halfway point in the 10-race chase for the title.

Biffle has won in each of the first two races in the Chase, moving up from ninth in points at the start of the Chase into a two-way tie for second with defending series champion Jimmie Johnson, both just 10 points behind leader Carl Edwards.

“We unloaded with the All-Star and Coca-Cola 600 setup in the car," said Biffle. “We figured that was a great place to start since we finished second in both of those events and the car is super-easy to drive, and it has a lot of speed. I'm pretty happy about that for starters."

Scott Speed was second-fastest with a top speed of 184.881 mph in a third Toyota entry for Red Bull Racing. Edwards was third at 184.231 mph, followed by Bryan Clausen at 184.068 mph in the no. 40 Chip Ganassi Dodge. Elliott Sadler rounded out the top five with a fast lap of 183.836 mph.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. posted the fastest speed in the afternoon session, running a fast lap of 182.642 mph. Biffle was second fastest, followed by Mark Martin, Kyle Busch and Dave Ragan. Pete McCole reporting from Lowe's
