No Honda F1 joyride for this year’s IndyCar champ

Every year American Honda arranges for an Indy Car driver, usually the champion, to test their Honda F1, which invariably gets rumors swirling in the F1 paddock and always ends up in a let down for the driver who never gets an offer to go F1 racing.

However this year's champion Scott Dixon, who has his head screwing on straight, is far more realistic. Dixon says he has no Formula One ambitions on the heels of his victory this year in the Indianapolis 500 race, and taking the big American IndyCar championship.

In terms of prestige IndyCar ranks just behind Formula One which normally attracts new recruits from other European series which often race on the same circuits as the top championship.

During a stopover in Auckland, New Zealand Scott Dixon says he's focused on trying to repeat his success in IndyCar and doesn't see a move to Formula One as likely saying at 28 he's getting too old and would take too long for him to adapt to the competition.

Instead he's focusing on winning a third Indy car championship.

[Editor's Note: Unlike Champ Car which sent a number of drivers to F1, F1 teams do not view the oval dominated IndyCar Series as a place to look for top drivers. Driving in circles doesn't make a good F1 driver.]
