Montoya’s car fails inspection

It appeared that Juan Pablo Montoya had won his first career Sprint Cup Series pole on Friday at Kansas Speedway after turning a lap of 172.150 mph. But Montoya's lap and pole-winning run were disallowed when NASCAR officials found that the rear shocks on Montoya's car exceeded the maximum gas pressure allowed by the NASCAR rule book.

Hendrick Motorsports’ Jimmie Johnson, the top qualifier among Chase For The Sprint Cup contenders, inherited the pole with his lap of 172.007 mph to take the top starting spot for Sunday's Camping World RV 400. Dale Earnhardt Inc.’s Mark Martin will start second.
