No more updates for 2008 Renault

(GMM) Renault's Singapore grand prix-winning R28 car received its final update ahead of the F1 night race.

Among the last developments for the 2008 single seater, driven by Singapore winner Fernando Alonso and his teammate Nelson Piquet, was a new front wing.

Team engineering chief Pat Symonds explained that, in previous years, wind tunnel developments for the following season's car could often be applied to the existing racer.

"But it's not the case this year because the aerodynamics for next season are so different," he said, referring to the sweeping rules changes for 2009.

"So this really is the end of the updates, other than any changes that may be made for reliability," Symonds added.

The story is different for the title contenders, however, with McLaren's Martin Whitmarsh admitting that an update is scheduled for the season finale.

"We will be looking to see whether we can pull any of those improvements forwards," he said.

"There will still be little bits and pieces brought to the car for the two Asian races but the package of upgrades won't be as big as the one we brought to Singapore."
