Musings from Fuji
10/13/08 It has to be so very clear to Ferrari that they really need Alonso as their regular two drivers are just not doing the job. Alonso was surprised to win last year with McLaren, but Renault? They were what, 15th on the grid last year. Way back. I have come to the conclusion that Alonso is the best guy on that track overall in terms of car development, race driving, strategy. And he has a ton of money that will follow. I expect he will stay with Renault next year. They are a pretty dialed in team, especially when Alonso is driving. Why would he swap what he has for Honda whom are terrible? This is a great year for Alonso. He has clearly proven his worth and what he did as well for McLaren.
Hamilton is an idiot. He learned nothing from throwing the championship away last year. Japan this year was like Brazil last year. He took lots of unnecessary risks. He just does not have it in his constituency to play it safe. He was fine if he followed Kimi into the first turn. Massa started 5th. So what does he do? Freak out and dive-bomb Kimi and start a mess for himself not to mention a lot of others. Hamilton can compare himself to whomever he wants but I am pretty clear that prior World Champions who are running for points know how to play it safe to get there. He doesn’t. This arrogant little guy is going to screw it up again. Hamilton is lucky Kimi isn’t a dirty driver because Hamilton gave Kimi every opportunity to simply collide with him in the first turn and hand a big points advantage to Massa.
Yeah, Bourdais kind of got screwed but in every series I have ever raced in with the Championship coming down to the wire in the drivers meeting they always tell you to be careful not to take out the championship contenders. I don’t know that he really had anywhere to go but clearly he got racy with Massa at the wrong time in the race and the season. Ira Fierberg
