Decision on new French GP venue today
The French Grand Prix will be held at the Magny Cours circuit for the nineteenth and more than likely last time on June 28, 2009. Bernie Ecclestone has agreed to keep the Grand Prix in France on the condition that it proposes a site more stimulating and accessible that Magny Cours after sponsors called to move the event. Today the FFSA (French federation of Automobile Sport) will pick from one of three choices near Paris:
- Disneyland Paris, supported by Alain Prost and Lagardere Sports, is Ecclestone’s preference. The American giant opened its arms and hectares for the F1 program but laid down certain conditions: that the event does not startle its other customers.
- Val de France, which is supported by former GP winner Jean Pierre Beltoise. This avenue is meant to be a major complex, not just a circuit, with a technological department that would help with eco friendly research. However, the cost is said to be close to €1 billion.
- Yvelines County which is close to the Renault and Peugeot (French manufacturer leaders) facilities.
