Klien ‘certain’ BMW has KERS advantage

BMW Sauber test driver Christian Klien is confident that the Hinwil-based squad is way ahead of its competitors in the development of its Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS).

Next year’s rules permit (but do not require) the use of KERS devices, which store energy otherwise lost during braking and convert it into power.

Klien believes BMW is at a more advanced stage of development with its system than all of its rival teams – despite the high-profile incident in July when one of the team’s mechanics suffered an electric shock while handling a KERS-equipped car.

“It goes without saying that every team is trying to come to terms with all this as quickly as possible," Klien told BMW Sauber’s website.

“I am certain that we at BMW are furthest on with our preparations."
