Brazilian GP: Massa tops practice 1

World championship protagonists Felipe Massa and Lewis Hamilton got the season-closing Brazilian Grand Prix meeting off to a fitting start by finishing 1-2 in Friday’s opening practice session.

Hamilton held sway for most of the session, but Massa steadily inched closer to him and demoted his McLaren rival with six minutes remaining.

Massa’s best time of 1m12.305s beat Hamilton’s earlier benchmark by 0.19s.

Massa’s Ferrari teammate Kimi Raikkonen was third fastest despite a late spin on a track rendered slippery by drizzle.
