UPDATE Statement from Mario Dominguez regarding his traffic accident in Mexico City: “Unfortunately I was involved in a car accident here in Mexico City on Saturday and thankfully no one was hurt. I was on my way to an early golf tournament and I made an error and hit a taxi cab.

I left the scene for help because I was assaulted by another taxi driver that stopped at the scene. It was an unfortunate accident and despite there being no citations issued, I have offered to cover the vehicle damage. I am frustrated by the false interpretations reported of this incident, and I would like the media to know and report the truth, which is why I’ve asked to include this police report. 11/08/08 Former Champ Car driver and part-time IndyCar driver, Mario Dominguez, was the cause of a hit and run accident in Mexico City today. AR1.com sources say Mario Dominguez was clearly drunk, and nevertheless the police let him go. His insurance was expired, so he had to take care of the victims and the damage caused.

Dominguez started a police chase in the Condesa Neighborhood DF, apparently drunk. The chase ended when he crashed into a taxi and injured its passenger.

After hitting the first taxi he ran from the scene, and then hit another one. The reports say he ran from the first crash after refusing to take care of the damages caused to the taxicab valued at 200 pesos (around 16 US dollars).

Dominguez was chased by several taxi drivers and two police patrols. The other taxis stopped him because he hit another taxi and injured the taxi's passenger.

Nevertheless, he was apparently driving drunk, and the police officers let him leave the scene….

Something that AR1.com readers should take into account – The Mexican law is very flexible, or at least it seems flexible when celebrities have car accidents related to alcohol. It was a shame to have a Mexican star behave like this. Mario Dominguez looked so wasted, and had a little injury on his left cheek just below the eye. He appeared fine though. Source
