Because the trio only joined the season in Chengdu, all three were still significantly behind the level of mileage completed by the other 17 teams.
Held in mostly wet conditions, none approached the lap record of 1m 49.221s set by Switzerland’s Neel Jani last season in the first generation car. The best time was set by India’s Narain Karthikeyan with a 1m 52.433-second lap, ahead of Great Britain’s Danny Watts recording a lap 0.4 seconds off.
Mexico’s Davide Garza was third, with a lap 2.6 seconds behind Karthikeyan.
