Singapore track widened for 2009 race
(GMM) Parts of the layout of Singapore's formula one street circuit will be altered ahead of the 2009 race.
The Asian city-state this year staged the sport's first ever floodlit night race, which will be reprised with a late September date on the 2009 calendar.
But despite the debut event's widely lauded success, the news source Channel NewsAsia reports that at least three corners – 1, 2 and 3 – will be widened ahead of next year's race to inspire more overtaking.
"Perhaps Stamford corner could (also) be extended so that there is a little bit more access for overtaking," race promoter Singapore Grand Prix chairman Teo Hock Seng confirmed.
Run-off areas at St Andrews road, and also at turn 22 just behind the pit building, could also be extended.
