NASCAR Layoff count

UPDATE The recent layoffs at many NASCAR teams have prompted the creation of a networking and resume posting site, www.DontCheckUp.com.

Unveiled on Monday, the site was created for displaced workers in the motorsports industry seeking employment.

Don Gemmell, one of 113 employees recently let go by Dale Earnhardt Inc., conceptualized the site, which will allow displaced workers from DEI and its affiliated Earnhardt-Childress Racing Engines to list their name, resume and contact information.

The site can be expanded to include information from former employees of other NASCAR teams as well.

“The outplacement service retained by DEI for us at our termination provided eight hours training," said Gemmell, who worked in motorsports operations at DEI. “But only about 30 of the 113 have taken advantage of it, so far.

“As I listened to them and talked to others who were also losing their jobs, I started to think of ways we could work together instead of individually. So after input from some of the group, we put together www.DontCheckUp.com to help."
