Marco Andretti re-signs with father’s team

Andretti Green announced today that it has signed Marco Andretti to drive its #26 IndyCar Series entry for the 2009 season.

Andretti will once again be part of the team’s four-driver IndyCar Series lineup, which includes 2004 IndyCar Series champion Tony Kanaan, 2008 Bombardier Learjet Rookie of the Year Hideki Mutoh and 2005 Bombardier Learjet Rookie of the Year Danica Patrick.

Andretti enters his fourth season in the IndyCar Series coming off a 2008 campaign that saw him lead 330 laps, which ranked fourth among all drivers and tallied more than his previous two seasons combined. The 21-year old son of team owner Michael Andretti scored four podium and six top-five finishes in 2008, including a third in the 92nd running of the Indianapolis 500 – his second top-three finish at Indy in just three starts.

In addition to his IndyCar Series responsibilities with the team, Andretti has also made two starts for Andretti Green’s A1GP World Cup of Motorsport effort and is expected to compete in several more events for A1 Team USA in early 2009.

Marco Andretti:
“I’m really looking forward to 2009 at Andretti Green. As a team, we have a lot to prove next year and I want to be a big part of that. I learned a lot last year that I can build on going forward and have every reason to believe that we can be a factor all year long."

Michael Andretti, co-owner, Andretti Green Racing:
“It’s good to get Marco’s contract done. He is a big part of the future of our team and is someone that we expect big things from in 2009. As a team, we are working very hard to improve our entire program for next season and Marco will play a big role in everything we achieve."
