Porsche supports ALMS program
“The completion of the extensive RS Spyder development project gives our engineers the chance to look very intensively at different motorsport engagements in the future," he said. “Naturally, we give our attention to alternative drive systems. Porsche race vehicles were always known for their excellent overall efficiency and environmental friendliness.
“Porsche will look at the 2011 ACO rules when they are finalized, and then consider our options, with our first choice being an alternative fuel powerplant. We believe in the American Le Mans Series and its approach in showcasing these alternative powerplants, and support their efforts in that direction."
Duerheimer also said its decades-long platform with Porsche’s 911 is now and always will be the manufacturer’s main focal point in regards to racing. The 911 line is the most successful and well-known GT-class car in road racing.
“Despite Porsche’s success with prototypes, the 911 continues to be the emphasis at Porsche Motorsport," he said.
