Montezemolo calls KERS intro a mistake
Luca di Montezemolo says KERS introduced too soon |
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo says that the introduction of KERS to F1 in 2009 is a mistake, especially as he believes it will not have a use in road cars in the immediate future. We believe he is saying it because Ferrari started late on their KERS design and are behind the 8-ball.
"It's not possible to do everything overnight," Montezemolo was quoted as saying by Autosport. "It's a process from year to year. The KERS is a mistake. Whatever we discover there's nothing in common between the KERS in F1 and that for road cars."
"However for 2012 KERS could be an important part of a new package that properly addresses environmental concerns," he added. "But for 2009, KERS is the biggest part of F1 spending."
"I'm not against the principle, but the way it is at the moment is a mistake," he added. "It needs to be a package for the future and have three or four years to work on the whole engine-KERS package."
