Barrichello thinks ex-Honda team can still win

With the news that Honda was pulling their support from Honda racing and closing the doors on their Formula One involvement, instead of seeing his chances of remaining in the pinnacle of Motorsport diminish, Brazilian driver Rubens Barrichello is confident that his position has strengthened to some degree.

Before the news was announced, the Brackley based squad were busy testing younger up and coming drivers such as Bruno Senna, however, now that new owners may be coming in, Barrichello is confident that they will need the likes of a more experienced racer, such as himself.

“At the end of the day, as I said it won't change anything for me," he told Autosport. “If someone comes and buys the team with a tighter budget but with the competence of the people we have there, especially with Ross, I think they need both drivers to be experienced. So, I think it will change very little.

Rubens has been in England recently visiting the factory and it has only made him more determined to stay in Formula One. However, he did admit interest from other racing series’, but it doesn’t hold a candle to what he really wants to do….

“I've talked to several people. It was funny that my telephone started to ring about different things as soon as Honda said they were pulling out. I had calls from the WTCC to the 24 Hours of Daytona it really started to ring. But my focus is completely on F1. For the love of speed I would do anything, even IRL, but I have unfinished business in F1. I am sure I can finish higher up, if not winning the championship."
