Bernie – we won’t pay more

Bernie Ecclestone has warned F1 teams to expect less money, rather than more, from the sport's owners during the financial downturn.

In the wake of the departure of Honda from Formula One, the remaining teams last month agreed a raft of measures aimed at reducing costs in the sport.

And Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo suggested the sport's supremos should distribute more of the money to the teams.

But Ecclestone told the Financial Times: "They could ask for more money but they won't get it.

"We don't need to pay more. We've got to give them less."
