Grand-Am allows cheaters to keep Rolex 24 win
UPDATE Rumor in the Grand-Am paddock was that Jim France has personally paid for the engine development of the Brumos Porsche team and pays the majority of operating costs by financing J.C. France's seat at Brumos. They did a token rpm reduction to 7,600 after Penske complained when the Brumos cars were 3mph faster on the straights. That is an unheard of margin when everyone runs the same body. In the end Ganassi and Penske cannot complain too much because of the bigger NASCAR picture.
01/27/09 The winning No. 58 Brumos Racing Porsche Riley was found to be out of compliance for minimum vehicle weight in post-race technical inspection. The car was found to be 12 pounds underweight. The team was fined $5,000 in addition to five driver, team and manufacturer points. This will not affect the race results says the Grand-Am.
No wonder the Ganassi team could not figure out why the Porsche powered car was faster. They were cheating.
So in essence Grand-Am (run by NASCAR) has stated you can cheat to win and get to keep it. They will only slap your wrist with a measly $5K fine.
Grand-Am should hang out a new sign "Cheaters Wanted".
