Dallara chassis ready for Porsche engine
Up until now, the Dallara was configured to work with either the Ford or Pontiac engines in Daytona Prototype competition.
"At the moment we have noticed a big interest in this project," said Luca Bergianti, Dallara's Senior Vehicle Dynamicist. "Already, some teams have enquired regarding this package."
The Dallara debuted in Daytona Prototype competition at the 2008 Rolex 24 At Daytona, when Doran Racing finished 16th in class with in the No. 77 Ford Dallara. Memo Gidley and Brad Jaeger raced the car – a modified Doran chassis – throughout the season, with a best finish of fifth in the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen.
SunTrust Racing raced the first purpose-built Dallara Daytona Prototype at Homestead-Miami Speedway, finishing 14th in class in the No. 10 SunTrust Pontiac Dallara. The team suffered a setback when its new car and spares were destroyed in a highway fire following an eighth-place finish at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The team had a new Pontiac Dallara ready for the Brumos Porsche 250 at Daytona International Speedway.
Michael Valiante won his first of three poles for the Dallara Daytona Prototype at Virginia International Raceway in April. Valiante also joined Max Angelelli in scoring the first victory for the car from the pole at Infineon Raceway in August.
A third Dallara was raced by Doran Racing for Burt Frisselle and Ricky Taylor, with the best finish for the No. 47 Brach's/CDOC Ford Dallara a fifth at Barber Motorsports Park.
