Massa fastest on curtailed day 2

Ferrari, BMW Sauber and Toyota had just forty minutes of running in Sakhir this morning, before their running was cancelled thanks to heavy sandstorms hitting the Middle Eastern track, costing the teams valuable development time, as the weather in Jerez proved to be far more accommodating for the other teams. In the end, the few minutes running allowed the three teams to complete just 53 laps, with Felipe Massa topping the timesheets with a 1m33.939s.

All three teams had travelled to Bahrain knowing that the superior climate would offer them a good opportunity to continue with their development programs without the disruption of rain, but once the wind started to pick up around 9.00 at the start of the day, conditions began to deteriorate rapidly. Ultimately, at 9.40, circuit officials were forced to close the track as the medical helicopter was unable to fly, and although it was hoped that the action would resume, the green light never appeared.

Testing resumes here tomorrow, with all three teams hoping for improved conditions. The day will see Kimi Räikkönen, Christian Klien and Jarno Trulli in action for their respective teams.

Unofficial Wednesday times from Sakhir:
1. Felipe Massa (Ferrari) – 1:33.939, 17 laps
2. Robert Kubica (BMW Sauber-BMW) – 1:34.398, 22 laps
3. Timo Glock (Toyota) – 1:34.902, 14 laps
