Sir Frank against wind tunnel limitations

Frank Williams has hit out proposals to reduce the use of wind tunnels in Formula One; the potentially cost-cutting idea is being discussed by the Formula One Teams' Association as it looks to present it to the FIA.

The sport's governing body is unable, however, to accept a proposal until all teams have come to an agreement over the matter. Both Williams and its engine supplier Toyota have expressed their dissatisfaction over the idea, which would give teams the option to focus more on development via either wind tunnels or CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics), as opposed to using both. If put into practice, the process would see costs decrease as well as contributing to a 'greener' F1 as a result of energy saving.

Despite agreeing initially to the proposal, Frank Williams has since explained to Autosport that he is unhappy with certain teams' comments explaining that, as they possess only one wind tunnel, his Grove-based squad should follow suit. The team principal claims this is "a very strong piece of discrimination" against, not only Williams F1, but the likes of other teams in possession of two wind tunnels such as his engine supplier Toyota and the up-for-sale Honda team.

Despite jokingly offering the more comical suggestion of having only one driver as well, Williams has made his feelings clear that his team is not happy about the issue and further insists that any major technical modification must be with "unanimous agreement" from all teams.
