Abu Dhabi F1 on track despite crisis
(GMM) Preparations for the inaugural Abu Dhabi grand prix remain on track, despite the problems struck by the official F1 theme park in nearby Dubai.
It emerged last week that F1-X developer Union Properties halted construction of the theme park due to the global financial crisis and the drying up of bank liquidity.
With fellow developer Aldar Properties in the midst of a similar project, the Abu Dhabi F1 track and other ventures on Yas Island, it was feared the scene of the 2009 season finale might also be affected.
But Yas Island Project director Steve Worrel said: "The global economic meltdown has helped the projects as more workers and bidders are available now."
The United Arab Emirate capital's inaugural grand prix is scheduled for November 1.
