Plane crash kills 3 en route to Atlanta
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution quoted Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen as saying the 1975 Cessna 182 crashed about 9 a.m. into a pond about three miles southwest of the State University of West Georgia in Carrollton.
The small plane, a four-seater, left McCollum Field in Kennesaw and was registered to four men, including one from Roswell. Bergen told the Atlanta newspaper site the pilot had filed no flight plan.
"It's not unusual for that type of plane to not file a flight plan as long as the weather is clear," she said.
A pilot quoted on WSB-TV said that the plane was headed toward Hampton, site of Sunday's Kobalt Tools 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
