Official Launch: SpeedcastTV.com
Leading motorsports webcaster Speedcast Productions has launched a groundbreaking new website. SpeedcastTV.com will feature live and on-demand video from dirt and paved short tracks, road racing, karting, and more. The site will also include breaking news, driver profiles, user forums and live chat.
“There is an incredible variety of great racing out there, from sports cars to late models, from karts to hydroplanes" said Speedcast founder, Clark Cambern, “but you can only see a few of those races on television, and most are tape-delayed. We wanted to create a place where fans could experience high-quality live and on-demand video of the racing they love, anytime, anywhere."
According to Cambern, SpeedcastTV’s real power will lie in its community. “Racing needs to be shared—fans want to argue about the big penalty or last-lap pass with people who know the sport and share their passion." Video is the centerpiece of SpeedcastTV, but Cambern says features like driver profiles and live chat are designed to draw the user in, teach him about what he’s watching, and give him a chance to talk about it with other users. “To be successful, racing needs a core community of dedicated, engaged fans. Many racing series are trying to expand their fanbase and appeal to a younger audience. A partnership with SpeedcastTV will enable them to build a fresh network of hard-core enthusiasts."
For now, you can find video from about a dozen races on the site, but Cambern says that new content will come online soon. “We’re firming up agreements with several major series right now, and we have plans to cover a number of big events in 2009. Some of this content will be produced in-house, but we’re also looking for series that already have a TV presence and want to expand their web exposure. We’re also interested in footage from independent videographers."
News, driver profiles, forums, and select videos will be free to all users, other while videos will require a subscription. “Like a print magazine, our revenue will come from a combination of subscriptions and advertising," said Cambern, “most of our content will be free in 2009, but users can purchase a yearly subscription to access even more." Gold subscriptions, which provide unlimited access, cost $39.95 per year. Silver subscriptions cost $19.95 per year. Skyscraper and video ad space is also available.
