ECR earns first sports car victory

An Earnhardt-Childress Racing Engine powerplant dominated the GT1 field March 8 at the 31st annual Tom Nehl National hosted by the Sports Car Club of America’s Buccaneer Region at Roebling Road Raceway near Savannah, Ga.

The win was the first for ECR Engines outside of NASCAR competition.

Owner/driver Terry Giles put the No. 85 H2O Overdrive/ECR Engines/Base Race Fuel Corvette C6 on the pole during qualifying and led every lap. Giles earned back-to-back South Atlantic Road Racing GT-1 championships in 2007-2008, and boasts more than 100 victories and more than 200 podium finishes in his road racing career.

“ECR gave us incredible horsepower and torque – the car was amazing," said Giles after the race. “The entire staff at ECR has embraced this venture and I’m confident in the amazing technology and horsepower they provide. We’re very proud to bring them their first victory outside of NASCAR."

The team’s next event is during the 2009 SCCA Trans-Am season opening weekend, March 21-22, at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga.
