KV Racing to test at Barber

KV Racing Technology will participate in two tests in preparation for the start of the 2009 IndyCar Series season beginning with a two-day open test at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama on March 22 and 23 followed by a day at Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Florida on March 25.

KVRT previously tested at Homestead – Miami Speedway on February 24-25 where driver Mario Moraes, #5 KV Racing Technology – Votorantim Honda/Dallara/Firestone, was sixth on the combined speed charts.

With the first two events of the 2009 season on street circuits, at St. Petersburg, April 5 and Long Beach, April 19, the tests at Barber and Sebring, both road courses, are extremely important to KVRT as they prepare for the start of the 2009 season.

Moraes, a 20-year-old native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, will be contesting his second IndyCar season. Last year, despite competing on all 16 IndyCar tracks for the first time, he earned three top-10 finishes with a best showing of seventh on the road course at Watkins Glen. He was 10th on the road course at Infineon Raceway and 10th on the Nashville oval. His best starting position was 10th on the airport street circuit at Edmonton.

“KV Racing Technology had a good test on the oval at Homestead," said Moraes. “But, coming from a road course background I am really looking forward to testing at both Barber and Sebring."

General Manager Mark Johnson said, “I am very happy with the way the Homestead test went. Mario did a good job. The engineers developed a solid program and the team did a fantastic job preparing the cars. However, we still have a lot of work to do before the start of the season and the upcoming road course tests will give us an opportunity to evaluate where our program stands in road course configuration. We are excited to get Mario behind the wheel and begin our final preparation for the season opening event."
