Briatore backs new ‘gold medals’ system
(GMM) Renault boss Flavio Briatore on Wednesday welcomed the change to the F1 points system for 2009.
Although the Italian admitted 'shock' with the budget cap scheme for 2010, and while the new points system is at odds with the FOTA alliance's own proposal, he told the BBC he is happy with the regime.
In 2009, the winner of the drivers' world championship will be the driver with the most number of wins, irrespective of his separate points tally.
"I don't have any problem with the gold medals," Briatore said.
"I think it's excellent motivation for drivers to win. Formula one is always about winning and overtaking, and if this is extra motivation, I think we are going the right way."
