Alonso believes Bernie will change mind
However, none of the drivers appear to be in favor, and the fans have hardly expressed their enthusiasm since it came to light.
That leads double world champion Alonso to wonder how Ecclestone and FIA president Max Mosley can fly in the face of popular opinion.
"I think we can make him (Ecclestone) change his mind," remarked the Spaniard.
"FOTA (Formula One Teams' Association) gave a list of proposals, and they were very clear and very clever in listening to the fans.
"We all more or less agree the winner has to have something more than he has now.
"So the 12 points for first and nine for second was the better compromise, and in a better direction for the future than the wins.
"If the fans, drivers and teams go in one direction, the FIA and Bernie cannot go against the world, so in the end I think they will also follow that direction."
"Unfortunately, the last few weeks have been bad for our sport," assessed Alonso.
"We've had the change in rules and then this attempt to change the world championship, and we are happy they regretted their decision and switched back to the normal points system.
"Now we have this diffuser thing. For the fans it is impossible to understand how Formula One can start a championship like this with so many doubts and so many changes.
"For more than 50 years Formula One has been one of the greatest sports ever, followed by millions of spectators around the world.
"The last three world championships have been decided in the last race, with last year in the last corner, so we cannot go too crazy about looking to improve the show for the people.
"The show we have now is enough. We just need to find some form of continuity."
