F1 to ‘always’ visit China – Ecclestone
The grandstands are usually sparsely populated at the grand circuit, but the F1 chief executive made it clear he fully supports the event.
"The Olympics (in Beijing) were forgotten after a few weeks but formula one comes here again and again," Ecclestone told reporters in Shanghai.
He said the ultra-modern Shanghai International Circuit facility "shows what China can do".
When asked for how long the Chinese grand prix will stay, the 78-year-old answered: "Always! As long as there is China, we will be here."
He said events of the past months have proved his decision to move East right. "While Asia grows the other continents die," said Bernie.
"I am a little disappointed that we are not yet supported fully by Chinese companies, I think they do not realize yet how they can profit from formula one," he continued.
Ecclestone also said he is fully focused on restoring a French grand prix.
