Genoa Racing Signs British Driver Dillon Battistini

Genoa Racing has signed Dillon Battistini to drive its No. 63 Indy Lights Series entry for this weekend’s Kansas Lottery 100 at Kansas Speedway. Battistini caused a sensation in 2008 when he won his first oval race at Miami Homestead and went on to win the most races of any driver in the Indy Lights Series in 2008, including the prestigious Freedom 100 at the Indianapolis 500 weekend. He will team up with rookie Richard Philippe.

Battistini, who is very close to signing a selected Indy Car program for 2009 and hopeful of starting the Indy 500, is delighted to be called up by Genoa to help the team and Richard Philippe on their first oval race of 2009 and knock off a few cobwebs.

Dillon will be carrying branding from MIS (Motorsport Insurance Services) a UK based Company offering Worldwide Motorsport Insurance who are looking to expand their US business this year.

Dillon Battistini, Driver No. 63 Indy Lights Series car:
“I am very grateful to my management, for getting things put together with Genoa. The 63 car is clearly a good seat out there. I am looking forward to working with the Genoa Team. I’m very confident in our ability to come away from Kansas with a top result, even though everything has come together so quickly. Thomas [Knapp] has assembled a very professional and talented team, and I’m looking forward to helping them out in any way I can.

Our primary focus has been IndyCar and the Indianapolis 500. It seems as if I’ve done nothing but workout and go to meetings for months now. I think it’ll be a nice mental break to get in a car this weekend … then hopefully the 500 and maybe more."

Mark Olsen, President of Genoa Lights
“Obviously, I’m excited to have Dillon’s experience under our tent this weekend. I think it’s important for Richard [Philippe] to have the best possible teammate to push him, to learn from, and to work together with on the track. So when we approached Dillon’s management with the idea and they agreed, we jumped at the opportunity.

Dillon’s a proven winner. If it weren’t for the economy he’d be in the thick of things in IndyCar this year, so it’s very lucky for us to be able to have him at Kansas."
