BMW may not have double diffuser in Spain
"Whether it will be there or not is not yet definite," team boss Mario Theissen is quoted as saying by Germany's Sport Bild.
The Hinwil based team has had a difficult start to the 2009 season, with hopes now pinned on a major upgrade for the struggling F1.09 car in Barcelona.
Sport Bild claims that designers did devise a double diffuser for the single seater, but that computer simulations raised doubts about its effectiveness.
The drivers, including Robert Kubica who is yet to score a single point, are not optimistic.
The Pole told Sport Bild: "We will make a step forward in Barcelona, but whether it will be big enough is improbable."
Teammate Nick Heidfeld added: "We did the first four races without big changes on the car, while the other teams constantly had new parts and went further ahead than us."
05/01/09 BMW Sauber is set to introduce a major update to it's F1.09 racer in Barcelona Spain next weekend.
Willi Rampf commented "We will be lining up in Barcelona with an extensive development package for the F1.09, which we have put together for the start of the European season. The nose section, more deeply undercut sidepods and the rear wing are all totally new. Added to which, modifications have also been made to the front wing, engine cover and underbody. We expect these improvements to significantly reduce our lap times."
Rampf also said, "they will bring a further lightened chassis (and KERS package) to allow for more ballast, which will be especially beneficial for Kubica. As well, we can expect some other minor changes, such as brake ducts refinements."
