STR4 to try significant upgrade in Spain

Every F1 team will be running with an upgraded car compared with the chassis they started with in Melbourne one month ago. At Scuderia Toro Rosso it won't be any different. The Italian team announced significant upgrades for the Spanish Grand Prix. Scuderia Toro Rosso will introduce a significant upgrade according to Toro Rosso chief engineer Laurent Mekies but the team was unable to test any of the upgrades as testing is forbidden this year in between the races. "Obviously we don't have testing now so we have to understand how the upgrade suits the direction we have taken so far," said Mekies.

"Does it push in the same direction or does it ask us to reconsider some of the choices we have made already? Mainly the update is from the developments at Red Bull Technology, carried on from work started in the winter. Significant items of that development program will reach us in Barcelona, so they are not directly influenced by what we did in the first four races.

"But we will see if what we did in the first races, in terms of set-up direction, suits the improvements or not."

"The Catalunya track is one of the very few on which we have tested before the start of the season, so it is one of the few tracks for which we have a reference point. It's an aero-track and everybody will run very close to maximum downforce despite the very long straight, so it is going to be the guys who find the highest amount of downforce who will probably be in a good position."
