Mid-Ohio to host Woman’s-only driving program
The class, held at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, will provide the opportunity for women motorists to learn new defensive driving skills and better understand the principles of safe driving through drill repetition and classroom sessions. A great way to practice collision avoidance, driving in inclement weather and vehicle control, the one-day program will include an emergency lane change drill utilizing Honda Odyssey minivans. Further drills will include wet braking and skid car, with the ABS turned on and off. These drills will replicate the risk conditions that are encountered in every day driving situations and address the necessary responses to them.
“We’ve occasionally found at The Mid-Ohio School that women are less comfortable enrolling in our programs, mainly because they occur at a racing facility where men tend to dominate the landscape and an element of competitiveness is expected," offered David Roush, general manager of The Mid-Ohio School. “While many women still do come through and excel in our various programs, we thought it necessary to target this demographic that may have previously been unaware of our offerings. On a day-to-day basis, women are likely to log more driving miles, and most often with passengers in the vehicle, so it’s important to give them these life-saving skills in order to avoid a collision or recover from a loss of control situation."
The program, a perfect last-minute Mother’s Day gift idea, is open for enrollment by calling 1-877-793-8667 or by visiting www.midohioschool.com. The price of this program is $350 and includes the use of a Honda Civic EX Coupe and Honda Odyssey van. While there are additional days available that drivers can sign up for the Honda Adult Defensive Driving Course, June 13 is the only date of the summer where women have the day to themselves.
The Mid-Ohio School provides professional driving and riding instruction to drivers and motorcyclists of all skill levels. The school’s 15 automobile courses include Defensive Driving, High Performance and Racing. The motorcycle side features five Performance Track Riding formats. Students enjoy classroom sessions, skill drills, expert private instruction and lapping on the same track that challenges the world’s top racers. In 16 seasons, The Mid-Ohio School has 31,500 graduates, including 10,500 teenagers.
